The e-commerce portal is intended to improve the current conditions of Pakistan’s IT sector which will be facilitated by different policies and funding. The Prime Minister added that he always wanted Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, to invest in the IT sector of Pakistan, and his one-day visit turned out to be beneficial, and good news will soon be announced. According to Radio Pakistan, Imran Khan said that there are one million active freelancers in Pakistan, comprising a large component of female users.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant to E-commerce, Aon Abbas Buppi, said the government is making vigorous efforts to take the volume of e-commerce trade from an existing four billion dollars to 7.5 billion dollars by the end of this year. Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, also spoke at the ceremony stating that Pakistan’s IT sector grew by 47 percent last year and the expected growth this year is 75 percent.

The Prime Minister observed that the world is rapidly growing towards digitalization where e-commerce and freelancing are advancing at a substantial rate, and to compete with the world, Pakistan has to make progress at the same rate. He urged the youth to not miss this revolution and hoped that the youth will play a vital role in helping bridge the country’s trade gap. Citing the example of the freelancer, Nadia Iqbal, from Gilgit-Baltistan, he stated that IT provides the easiest option for women to contribute to economic success.

A report by San Francisco-based organization Deel, Pakistani freelancers salaries are among the world’s fastest-rising. A 27% rise in the salaries of the Pakistani freelancers was reported by the report making an average freelancer earning up to Rs. 6 billion.
